Fall Production Classes September 2-December 18
ZACH's Daytime Production Classes are process-oriented production classes culminating in end of semester performances. The curriculum includes creative movement and drama classes for children ages 3-7, and adaptations of classic pieces directed by theatre professionals for ages 8 and up. Most classes meet one day a week, though extra daytime rehearsals are often scheduled the final month of class.
ZACH's Junior Troupe, the select ensemble of home schooling teens, begins September 8. Deadline for application is August 22. See below for more information.

Register early, as space is limited. To reserve a place, a $50 deposit per class is due at registration and is applied to tuition.

Preschool Creative Drama (Ages 3-5)
The perfect complement to Creative Movement, Creative Drama is a fun and active introductory acting class for the youngest players. Preschoolers create and perform original stories as they explore storytelling, face painting, puppets, music and more.

Children ages 5 to 7 create and perform original stories incorporating storytelling, character development, theatre games, creative movement and music.

Macbeth (Ages 12 & up)
Based on one of William Shakespeare's finest tragedies. Students dissect the language of Shakespeare as they delve into the story of Macbeth and his Lady and their greedy desire for power, stopping at nothing to attain it.

Costumes ala Project Runway (Ages 11 & up)
Students will experience the challenges of theatrical costume construction including basic sewing and patterning, rendering and swatching, and will become familiar with different types of stitching machines. The class finale is a fashion show of winning designs from throughout the semester, and a final challenge with guest judges! No previous experience or knowledge is required, and beginners are encouraged.

All's Well that Ends Well (Ages 14 & up–mature themes)
In a nutshell, Helena loves Bertram, and Bertram loves his freedom. Students study and perform Shakespeare’s classic tale of Helena, a young maid hopelessly in love with a man who would rather flee to war hoping for death over marriage. Undaunted, Helena follows Bertram to war and the shenanigans ensue.

Rumplestiltskin (Ages 8-10)
A class based on the humorous fairy tale by the Brother’s Grimm. The town miller causes big trouble when he lies to the king about his daughter’s extraordinary spinning talents and makes an outlandish promise to a short little man with a long name.

Rodgers & Hammerstein Scenes (Ages 11 & up)
Students study, stage and rehearse scenes from the Rodgers & Hammerstein musicals Carousel, Oklahoma!, The King and I, The Sound of Music, South Pacific and others. Musical Theatre fun!

American Girls & Boys (Ages 7-10)
Students explore a popular series of historical fiction about kids growing up during important and challenging times for America. Different characters portray a different era in American History.

Blow winds blow! Considered by many to be one of Shakespeare's finest works, King Lear boasts some of Will's most intriguing characters. Through vibrant language and imagery, the Tragedy of Lear is not one to miss!

Ever think about why you like your favorite adventure books and movies? Find the perfect formula for a good story as we study favorites like The Princess Bride, The Neverending Story, The Chronicles of Narnia and more. We will create an imaginary world of fantastic places and characters on adventure, and develop a script for a final showcase.

A class based on Moliére’s Classic French satire, The Miser is a tale full of wit, fun, and farce. Harpagon, a rich moneylender does anything for fortune, while his feisty children long to escape from his penny-pinching household and marry their respective lovers.

Tech Theatre (Ages 12 & up)
Explore the technical side of theatre as you design and build an actual set for a ZACH Education show! Discover the creative side of design, and the practical side of construction. Incorporating props, sound, and lights, students discover the fun things happening backstage! Class runs through mid-January. After the holiday break, we will regroup for additional hours to finish the set build. Parent volunteers are encouraged!

ZACH Performing Arts School announces 2008-2009 Junior Troupe. Award-winning actor and director Jon Watson leads select home schooling teens ages 14 to 18 for this semester-long intensive. This year, students will delve into the world of musical theatre. Begin the semester with a study of the history of musical theatre, then use Moulin Rouge, Romeo and Juliet, the music of Bread, and more as the inspiration for an original musical created by the class. Director Jon Watson will start the class with 2 songs, and the class will create the rest. Singing experience not a requirement, all talents needed to create text, lyrics, music, and more. Students expected to participate in all aspects of production- marketing, ticket sales, set, costume, and props. Additional rehearsal time required two weeks prior to performances.
Interested teens ages 14 to 18 should submit a letter of interest plus acting resume by August 22 to tina@zachtheatre.org or mail to ZACH Education Department, c/o Tina Gramann, 1510 Toomey Rd., Austin TX 78704. Class roster determined by previous experience and level of commitment. Class size limited to 14 students with priority to graduating students.
