Successes & Awards

ZACH student David Bologna was cast in the new Broadway musical, Billy Elliot, opening the fall 2008!  He will play the role of Billy's friend Michael.  David, an acclaimed Irish Step Dancer, first auditioned several months ago in Dallas, and had two callbacks in NYC, for which he had to learn a very challenging tap dance routine.  Kudos to Adam Roberts for helping this talented Irish Dancer/Actor/Singer transformed his Irish dance skills to those of a Tap Dancer.

Between 2004 and 2006–ZACH awards 100 Performing Arts School scholarships to children ages 5-15 years from throughout the Austin area.
May 2005–fourteen homeschool students from ZACH’s daytime production classes, won first place for their production of Arthur Miller’s The Crucible, at the statewide one-act play competition held by the Private School Interscholastic Association.  
April 27, 2006–is pronounced “ZACH Theatre Performing Arts School Day” by Mayor Will Wynn.
April 2006–Project Discovery provides tickets to 270 high school students to see the mainstage performance, The Exonerated, enriched by a ZACH-produced educational DVD and talk-backs with the artists and experts in the justice system.  
2006–ZACH teacher and director, Jaclyn Loewenstein, received the 2006 B. Iden Payne Award for Outstanding Director of a Play for Youth for The People Garden.
ZACH’s Project InterAct reaches out to the 55% of Travis County students who are Spanish-speaking with original bi-lingual children’s theatre productions such as Alicia, a bi-lingual adaptation of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Tres Tales de Grimm, and Fabulas de Aesopa.
Alicia has been published by Playscripts and made available for other children’s theatre companies around the nation to produce.  
ZACH has been named the “Favorite Place to Study Theatre” for four consecutive years by the Austin Family Reader’s poll.
ZACH’s Junior Performance Troupe received the Austin Chronicle’s Honorable Mention nomination for their performance of the absurdist piece, Ubu Roi.  
ZACH has been recognized as a “Partner in Education” by both Manor ISD and the Legacy of Giving.
